Can you speak a foreign language? If not, which one would you want to learn? Why?

I started taking Japanese during my freshman year of high school.  I originally took it because I was inspired by a date (who was part Japanese) who knew all about the fascinating culture and language structure of Japanese. I continued taking this language throughout my four years of high school and my first semester of college. My Sensei, for high school, was awesome. She had a great sense of humor but was very strict and made sure that we worked our hardest. I almost gave up twice but she pushed me. She wouldn't even sign my permission slip to drop the course during the third year. I took the city bus to a separate campus last semester (30 miles away) every day for 3 and a half months. I don't know if I will continue taking courses for Japanese, but I'm sure that I will use it on occasion.
I'm starting to take Spanish online (through the public library) because I think that it will be extremely useful. I also took a year of French in high school. I don't think I will pursue that language much further, but I might travel to France at some point, so knowing a bit is nice. I also would like to learn Italian, Gaelic, and Norwegian. Possibly German, as well. (I am German and Norwegian).

  • Back in elementary school, what kinds of games do you remember playing?

Let's see...elementary school...The days of sidewalk canvases beautified with my scribbles and blobs that I called art-work, chasing each other on the playground (no, no tag-just chasing each other for the purpose and freedom of running and laughing), and of course other crazy, little games that we both made-up and learned. I remember during the warmer months we'd play on the black-top/wood-chipped playground so many different things. "Don't touch the lava", freeze tag (I was awful because I was always the slowest...I NEVER moved during that game!), swinging on the swings and seeing if we could flip over the bar (we never could) or if we had the courage to jump off from way high up (most of us did...but many ended up breaking or fracturing something at some point), four-square (I hated Cherrybombs! That's what always prevented me from retaining the coveted "king's" spot on the court), basketball-which was really just seeing how high we could make the ball bounce when slammed on the black-top. Winter was fun, too. I grew up here in Wisconsin so we always had a ton of snow when I was a kid. The playground would get plowed the night of a huuuuuge snowfall and we would wake up and run to the playground to discover the enormous snow mountain that was made! If we remembered our snowpants and boots we would get to play on it! We'd dig tunnels, make forts, or pretend we were Eskimos or Arctic wolves and frolic around. Of course we had to make certain that the boys never crossed into our territory-if they came too close to our fort we bombarded them with snowballs.
Of course there were indoor games, too, for those rainy days. We played mancala, kerplunk (with the marbles), guess who, monopoly jr, all your basic board games. Uno was always a favorite of mine.
At home, during the summer, I would arrange the spare bedroom into a sort of "dollhouse" for real people. I would take care of my "baby" and cook up delicious "meals" for my friends. When I got bored of that, I'd play Barbies and make up crazy stories that would make hours fly by.
I also was a video game fanatic. My mom said that she played Mario and Zelda when she was pregnant with me, so maybe that's why I've always been obsessed. When the air-conditioning was running on high for weeks at a time, I'd stay cool upstairs while playing these games (especially Zelda). My mom would do work on the computer at the same time and we'd occasionally chat while minding our own business.
I could go on for hours; the games from my childhood are endless. But I'm super tired, good night!

    Catch up

Oh man. I haven't blogged in months. I don't know what got into me. Well. Actually I do. It was a rough few months. A good few months...but yes, a rough few months. I'll go in chronological order:

    December/January:
I finished up the semester with a wonderful 3.8 GPA. Yes. I was very pleased. But wait until I get to Spring semester...don't be so proud of me yet. Shortly after the beginning of Winter Break, I went on a bus trip to Connecticut to visit my fiance. A lovely 1,300 miles (each way) on a bus. But it was worth it. I got to actually see different parts of the country (including much of NYC, Newark, NJ, and New England). And, of course, I got to see my fiance. It was a good visit; we stayed in the Navy Lodge near base and it was very comfortable and clean, especially for the great price we paid for it. It was pretty cool to see where he spends all his time. So it was a good time. I also celebrated my 19th birthday while I was there. I like to celebrate my birthday quietly so it was very nice to hang out with him, watch a movie, and eat German Chocolate cake and Sushi.
The end of January brought with it the beginning of the Spring semester...
    February:
I began to have lots of issues adjusting to the new semester. I was pretty depressed much of this month (through the rest of this semester, actually). So not much happened.
    March:
Spring break! My parents and I stopped at a gas station on the nearby Native American Reservation and randomly got a dog. Some lady was giving this nice pug mix (Daisy) a home. So we brought her home and introduced her to Lily (our other pug mix) and they get along great! Unfortunately my cat, Honeysuckle, is still very displeased by her new "sibling". Spring break was  nice... I got to be home..have a St. Patty's Day party with my friends, and so forth.
    April:
The end of March/beginning few weeks of April were hard. My fiance and I broke up for a bit...I am not going to get into details because it is all too complicated. Point is, we are now back together and it seems to be going great so far. I'm basically failing the semester, though...A lot of it has to do with the "seasonal" depression that I had from the middle of January until the end of March. I strongly believe it had to do with going off my birth control pills after taking them for nearly five years. I am no longer pro-hormonal birth control, I will say that much. But I'm taking a couple online summer courses through the University I am transferring to (very expensive, though...) and hopefully it'll bring my grade up.
Oh, and I'm now a Psychology major and an Art History minor. Biology was DEFINITELY not for me!!

I'm doing better, though. Getting more in touch with who I really am and I'm gaining a lot of the confidence to stick to that, no matter what. However, I'm learning a healthy balance of that and knowing when to make sacrifices.

I'll try and update more from now on!
